1. ACCEPTANCE OF THESE TERMS
By accessing or using the BEEFCAKE website, Beef Beacon, Beeflet features, event tools, notifications, or related services (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service and acknowledge the Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, do not use the authenticated features of the Service.
2. WHO OPERATES THE SERVICE
The Service is operated by Biomedical Exercise Enthusiasts Fostering Conditioning, Anatomy, Kinetics, and Education (“BEEFCAKE”), an independent, student-run organization. BEEFCAKE is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by UCLA, and the Service does not represent UCLA’s views. Club contact: Shai Porat, PhD. 3. ELIGIBILITY AND ACCOUNTS
You must be able to enter a binding agreement and use a valid Google account to access authenticated Beacon features. You are responsible for your account, device, chosen display name, and activity performed through your session. Do not share access or impersonate another person.
4. WHAT THE SERVICE DOES
The Service may let users post or join workout and study sessions, share general location and schedule information, use calendar links and notifications, track voluntary minutes, appear on leaderboards, send Beef Bumps or Beeflet Signals, interact with a virtual Beeflet, RSVP to club events, and access educational or club material. Features may change, pause, or be removed.
5. EXERCISE, HEALTH, AND PERSONAL SAFETY
The Service does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, individualized exercise prescription, supervision, or emergency services. Consult a qualified professional when appropriate. Exercise within your abilities, inspect equipment and surroundings, follow facility rules, and stop if you feel pain, faintness, unusual shortness of breath, or other concerning symptoms. Call emergency services when necessary. BEEFCAKE does not verify users, facilities, attendance, competence, safety, or the accuracy of session information.
6. PUBLIC AND GROUP VISIBILITY
A public Beacon can show your chosen display name, general location, session time, activity or workout type, and whether others are invited. More precise details, such as room numbers, custom notes, study subjects, and attendee names, are limited to the session host and users who joined where the interface indicates. Avoid posting sensitive information. Other people may still copy or share information they can see.
7. ACCEPTABLE USE
You may not use the Service to harass, threaten, discriminate, stalk, exploit, deceive, impersonate, spam, or endanger anyone; post unlawful, sexually explicit, hateful, or dangerous content; falsify sessions, attendance, scores, or identities; access another account or restricted data; probe, scrape, overload, reverse engineer, automate, disrupt, or bypass protections; introduce malicious code; or violate laws, facility rules, or another person’s rights.
8. NOTIFICATIONS AND EMAIL
Notifications and email are optional. They may include session joins, departures, time changes, Beef Bumps, Beeflet Signals, leaderboard results, and Beeflet care reminders. Delivery is not guaranteed and may be delayed or blocked by your device, browser, email provider, or service provider. You can disable notifications or email preferences.
9. BEEF BITS, BEEFLETS, AND GAME FEATURES
BEEF Bits, Beeflets, companions, accessories, scenes, leaderboards, and rewards are fictional entertainment features. They have no cash value, cannot be purchased, transferred, exchanged, or redeemed, and may be adjusted or discontinued. Do not rely on them as proof of attendance, fitness, academic work, or eligibility.
10. ALWAYS FREE — NO CHARGES
BEEFCAKE and this Service are always free to use. No club member, officer, user, or third party is authorized to charge a fee, subscription, payment, donation, or tip for access to the website, Beacon, Beeflet, or ordinary club resources on BEEFCAKE’s behalf. A gym, venue, transportation provider, or separate event may have its own clearly disclosed third-party cost, but that is not payment for using this Service. If anyone asks you to pay for BEEFCAKE access, do not pay and contact Shai Porat, PhD.
11. EVENTS, FACILITIES, AND THIRD PARTIES
Events, gyms, routes, calendars, Google sign-in, forms, email, push notifications, maps, and linked sites may be operated by others under their own rules and privacy practices. BEEFCAKE is not responsible for third-party services, facility access, cancellations, transportation, conduct, or costs. Event-specific waivers or requirements may also apply.
12. CONTENT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The Service’s original branding, artwork, text, code, and design are protected by applicable law. You retain rights in content you submit, but grant BEEFCAKE a limited license to host, process, display, and transmit it only as needed to operate and improve the Service. You represent that you have the right to submit that content.
13. SUSPENSION, REMOVAL, AND ACCOUNT DELETION
BEEFCAKE may restrict or remove accounts, sessions, content, or access when reasonably necessary for safety, security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or reliable operation. You may delete your Beacon account using the account controls. Some de-identified or legally required records may remain as described in the Privacy Notice.
14. AVAILABILITY AND CHANGES
The Service is provided as a small student project and may experience errors, downtime, delays, data loss, feature changes, or discontinuation. BEEFCAKE does not promise uninterrupted availability or permanent storage.
15. DISCLAIMERS
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, safety, fitness for a particular purpose, availability, or non-infringement. Nothing here excludes rights or warranties that cannot lawfully be excluded.
16. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BEEFCAKE and its student organizers, volunteers, and contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, loss of data, loss of opportunity, personal interactions, facility issues, or reliance on Service information. This limitation does not apply where prohibited by law.
17. RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR CONDUCT
You are responsible for your use of the Service, your sessions, your interactions, and violations caused by your conduct. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to protect BEEFCAKE and its organizers from third-party claims arising from your unlawful use, submitted content, or violation of these Terms.
18. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms are governed by the laws of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be handled in a court with lawful jurisdiction, subject to rights that cannot be waived.
19. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
BEEFCAKE may revise these Terms. Material changes will receive a new policy version and may require a new one-time acknowledgement. Minor clarifications may be posted without repeated consent. The effective date above identifies the current version.
